Certified Mood Lifters! My Go-To Comfort Movies

“Some people turn to comfort food; I turn to comfort movies. There’s just something so soothing about knowing exactly what’s going to happen and still loving every second of it. No surprises, no stress, just pure, predictable joy.

You know that feeling when life is just too much, and you just want to run away from all your responsibilities? Yeah, that’s me right now. Obviously, I can’t run anywhere, so I do the next best thing. I go straight to the movies I already know will make me feel better. My comfort movies.

This has been my pattern for as long as I can remember. When I’m sad, happy, stressed or overwhelmed and I just need a quick pick-me-up, I watch movies. But in such situations, I don’t just watch any movie, I rewatch the same movies I’ve watched a million and one times.

There’s just something soothing about knowing exactly what’s going to happen, which lines are coming next, and still enjoying it just as much as the first time.

I’m a huge fan of sitcoms and romcoms, so you may find my list a little predictable. Or maybe you’ll find something to add to your list.

So, here are some of my all-time favorites, in no particular order:

1. When Harry Met Sally

Easily one of the best feel-good movies in the romcom genre. The witty dialogue, slow-burn romance, and Meg Ryan’s cuteness? Yes!

It’s one of those love stories where your person has been in your life all along without you realizing it.

And then there’s this one scene where Billy Crystal realizes he’s in love with Meg and he runs to her to profess his love. Ugh! It gets me every time. I’m such a sucker for romance.

2. Sister Act

Pure comedy. I don’t know if it’s the music, the characters or if it’s just my love for Whoopi Goldberg, but I really really love this movie.

It’s about a lounge singer who ends up in a convent under witness protection and completely transforms the church choir.

It’s fun, heartwarming and just makes me giddy every time I watch it.

3. Friends (TV Show, but it counts!)

Okay, so technically not a movie, but Friends deserves a spot here because, for over 10 years now, I’ve been picking random episodes to watch at random times. It honestly is my ultimate pick-me-up.

If you’ve somehow never watched it, Friends follows six friends living in New York, as they try to navigate their careers, relationships, and a lot of hilarious situations.

I love all the characters so much that I’ve never been able to pick a favorite. Is it weird that this show makes me feel at home?

4. Crazy, Stupid, Love

This movie is such a fun watch, and it definitely doesn’t hurt that Ryan Gosling is in it 😍😂.

I especially like this scene on the poster where everybody meets everybody and there’s a full-on brawl lol.

A really hilarious movie with a few emotional moments.

Also, that Dirty Dancing lift scene? Iconic.

5. The Proposal

Any movie where they’re faking a relationship only to end up falling in love? Sign me up! Now imagine this with a classic enemies to lovers trope? Perfect!

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds pretending to be engaged while constantly bickering is one of my favourite things in a romcom. Also, I love how over-the-top and dramatic their fake relationship was. Then, Betty White’s character was a hoot! I love her!

And who doesn’t love a romcom with a feel-good ending? 🤗

Why I’ll Never Get Over My Comfort Movies

It’s not always about the plot or the humor for me, sometimes I just rewatch these movies for the comfort they bring.

Some people turn to comfort food, I turn to comfort movies. They’re there when I need a break, when I want to unwind, or when life just feels a little too much.

So will I be watching these movies again? Absolutely! 🤭

Do you have comfort films? The ones you watch when you’re sick, sad, having a bad day, feeling a bit blue, the world is in turmoil, etc. What are they? Or do you not associate relaxation with movies like I do? If so, how do you let loose?

Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear about the films that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

  1. These are all beautiful movies, even though I haven’t seen all lol.
Friends … a funny and relaxing series, I enjoyed the brother and sister character because I can relate to it.

My go to movie / series is everybody hates Chris… beautiful characters… everybody in the movie killed they roles and i could relate to it because it’s just like a typical black family …. Chris living every teenager’s life, struggling with academics, trying to get girls, hustling to get paid as well.
Jumanji is another movie I watch over and over again just for the funny scenes

  2. I’m quite selective about the movies I watch, but that’s not the only thing that helps me unwind. Playing my favorite soccer game on Playstation can still do some magic. But mostly when i’m feeling stressed, I crave silence and solitude. I often retreat from conversations, social media, and the world around me to recharge. In those quiet moments, music can be a gentle balm to my soul.

  3. An interesting read ,I love all the movies you shared . I have watched some but will love to watch friends. Is it on Netflix?

  4. I don’t have comfort movies but there are comfort novels although I can’t read things all over again.
I’m glad you have things to comfort you..this life is stressful
